01 / THE BUYING QUESTION
Which internal features locate the assembly, and where must the exterior finish remain visually consistent?
02 / READ THE GEOMETRY
Details that shape
the requirement.
Recessed internal features
Mark the features that seat or retain the internal assembly. Provide the mating geometry and required clearances, including any areas that must remain accessible during installation.
Shaped corners
Review the internal and external corner requirements separately. Identify visible transitions and discuss the required geometry with the machining route before freezing the model.
Exterior and contact zones
Create a surface map distinguishing visible faces, skin-contact areas and hidden interfaces. Specify appearance and contact requirements for each zone rather than using one general finish note.

How will tool access, clamping references and secondary features be defined?

What matters
to your team?
Define the functional interfaces.
State which details are driven by assembly and which by appearance. Resolve conflicts at small corners and thin sections before approving the design.
Discuss your engineering requirementsMake the quotation comparable.
Separate machining, finishing and appearance approval in the quotation. Confirm treatment of design changes after a cosmetic sample has been accepted.
Discuss your purchasing requirementsAgree the acceptance evidence.
Retain the visual reference and inspection conditions alongside dimensional records. An appearance decision should identify the exact surface and finish being approved.
Discuss your quality requirements03 / A PART-SPECIFIC REVIEW
From feature
to machining brief.
01Define the assembled frame
Share the internal component envelope and the assembly sequence. Identify the cover, fasteners and other interfaces that determine the frame’s mechanical requirements and final orientation.
02Resolve material and finishing scope
Select the material grade and proposed finish. Review functional clearances in the finished condition and identify areas needing masking, texture control or protection during later handling.
03Agree sample appearance and fit
Set the dimensional checks and the controlled visual review conditions. Use identified mating components for the assembly review and record any approved appearance samples with the drawing revision.
04 / BEFORE SAMPLE APPROVAL
Agree what
acceptance will show.
Check specified seating features, recesses and mounting interfaces.
Verify finished clearances and any designated corner or edge conditions.
Assess visible surfaces against the agreed sample and viewing conditions.
