01 / THE BUYING QUESTION
Which shell surfaces locate the internal assembly, and which define the handling and visible finish?
02 / READ THE GEOMETRY
Details that shape
the requirement.
Tubular internal space
Provide the envelope of the internal assembly, including insertion direction and clearance requirements. Mark any regions that support, locate or retain an internal component.
Stepped end interfaces
Define the mating components at both ends and the required seating geometry. Include thread details where specified and show how the assembly is opened and secured.
Longitudinal exterior features
Identify the grip or appearance purpose of the exterior grooves. Separate visual requirements from the surfaces used for assembly, clamping or inspection references.

How will tool access, clamping references and secondary features be defined?

What matters
to your team?
Define the functional interfaces.
Clarify the shell’s mechanical role before adding environmental or thermal requirements. Name any additional validation needed and which team will own it.
Discuss your engineering requirementsMake the quotation comparable.
Compare quotations with the same material and finish assumptions. Confirm whether mating samples, cosmetic approval and individual surface protection are included.
Discuss your purchasing requirementsAgree the acceptance evidence.
Keep cosmetic approval separate from dimensions. Define viewing conditions and the allowable marks on grip, visible and assembly surfaces before reviewing samples.
Discuss your quality requirements03 / A PART-SPECIFIC REVIEW
From feature
to machining brief.
01Resolve the mechanical package
Supply an assembly model or section showing all components that interact with the shell. Identify any cable, switch or access requirements that affect the mechanical drawing.
02Select material and finish together
State the required material grade before confirming machining and treatment scope. Use finish references for appearance and define any functional contact, masking or cleanliness requirements separately.
03Review a representative sample
Agree dimensional and visual checks and specify the mating parts for a trial assembly. Include installation and removal observations where service access matters to the product design.
04 / BEFORE SAMPLE APPROVAL
Agree what
acceptance will show.
Verify the defined internal envelope and critical end-interface dimensions.
Inspect grip features and visible surfaces against the agreed appearance reference.
Record trial assembly conditions and any fit observations requiring design action.
