01 / THE BUYING QUESTION
Which interfaces should establish the column position, and how will the casting support their machining?
02 / READ THE GEOMETRY
Details that shape
the requirement.
Central support stem
Define the stem sections that locate or support the mating assembly. Identify the intended working axis and any insertion or seating relationship relevant to your mechanism.
Broad mounting form
Separate mounting surfaces from the external casting shape. Mark the faces that establish position and the regions that only provide the required package envelope.
Machined interface transitions
Show where machined surfaces meet the casting. Review the required machining allowance, accessible faces and any restrictions on visible transitions in the finished component.

What matters
to your team?
Define the functional interfaces.
Keep structural and motion requirements available for review, but identify which component dimensions support them. A visual exterior model is not a complete interface definition.
Discuss your engineering requirementsMake the quotation comparable.
Separate tooling, blank supply, machining and finishing costs. Confirm ownership and change responsibilities if the project includes new casting tooling.
Discuss your purchasing requirementsAgree the acceptance evidence.
Distinguish a casting observation from a machined-feature result. Use the final drawing references when accepting the completed support column.
Discuss your quality requirements03 / A PART-SPECIFIC REVIEW
From feature
to machining brief.
01Separate casting and component requirements
Provide the final component model and identify critical machined regions. Clarify whether an existing die-cast blank is available or whether blank development belongs in the quotation.
02Establish machining references
Discuss how the casting will be located for machining the stem and mounting interfaces. Agree the drawing references and treatment of any proposed changes before sample production.
03Define first-article evidence
Request the agreed interface dimensions and relevant visual checks with part identification. If the assembly needs a functional movement test, specify its setup separately and nominate who performs it.
04 / BEFORE SAMPLE APPROVAL
Agree what
acceptance will show.
Verify the identified stem dimensions and relationship to the mounting references.
Check machined seating surfaces and the required casting-to-machining transitions.
Record agreed casting appearance and component inspection requirements separately.
