Guide pillar: separate the working length from the fixing thread

A guide pillar combines a long locating surface with a fixing interface at its end. Use this stainless steel reference to define the useful guide length, collar position and internal thread without allowing one requirement to obscure the others.

01 / THE BUYING QUESTION

Where must the pillar guide the mating part, and how is the pillar itself secured?

02 / READ THE GEOMETRY

Details that shape
the requirement.

01

Working guide section

Mark the length that actually engages the mating guide. Separate that region from clearance sections and identify its required surface and dimensional controls.

02

End collar

Define the collar face that seats against the mounting structure. Relate the guide section and its usable projection to that face.

03

Internal fixing thread

Specify the thread, usable engagement and entry condition. Include the mating screw and distinguish threaded engagement from any deeper drilled space.

ONE PART. THREE BUYING DECISIONS.

What matters
to your team?

Define the functional interfaces.

Keep guiding and fastening functions distinct. A longer internal thread does not define the usable guide length or the required installed projection.

03 / A PART-SPECIFIC REVIEW

From feature
to machining brief.

01Map guide and mounting interfaces

Provide the mating guide and mounting details together. Identify the installed position, movement range and assembly sequence that determine the pillar’s functional dimensions.

02Review material and surface condition

Confirm stainless grade and any specified surface treatment or hardness requirement. Agree which guide surfaces must be protected from handling marks and how they will be measured.

03Agree sample checks at both ends

Plan the guide-section measurements, collar-location checks and internal-thread inspection. If a movement trial is required, name the mating part and conditions for that separate evaluation.

04 / BEFORE SAMPLE APPROVAL

Agree what
acceptance will show.

  • Measure the nominated guide section and its projection from the seating face.
  • Verify collar geometry and specified internal-thread engagement.
  • Inspect guide surfaces and entry edges to the agreed criteria.
