01 / THE BUYING QUESTION
How much of the fastener must pass through the assembly, and how much must engage the mating thread?
02 / READ THE GEOMETRY
Details that shape
the requirement.
Smooth shank section
Identify the portion passing through or locating the clamped components. Define its diameter and length from the seating face relevant to the assembled stack.
Extended external thread
Specify the thread designation and the engagement required by the mating component. Distinguish full thread, runout and clearance regions on the drawing.
Flat-sided head
Define the tool interface and the space available around it. Include the seating surface and any restrictions on installation marks or access direction.

What matters
to your team?
Define the functional interfaces.
Keep grip length and engagement distinct. Identify the seating reference and the space available for the selected installation tool.
Discuss your engineering requirementsMake the quotation comparable.
Compare the same material, thread, finish and documentation requirements. Make any special mechanical testing visible in the quotation scope.
Discuss your purchasing requirementsAgree the acceptance evidence.
Report thread and length features from the specified references. Record hardware and procedure for installation trials rather than accepting by appearance alone.
Discuss your quality requirements03 / A PART-SPECIFIC REVIEW
From feature
to machining brief.
01Review the assembled stack
Provide a section through the complete fastening arrangement. Identify the clamped components, mating thread and the references that determine grip and engagement lengths.
02Specify fastener requirements explicitly
Confirm stainless grade, material condition and finish. Include any strength, installation or retention requirements and the applicable test documentation requested for the finished fastener.
03Agree dimensional and installation checks
Set the shank, thread and head inspection scope. If a tightening or access trial is needed, nominate the tool, mating hardware and procedure so the sample decision has a clear basis.
04 / BEFORE SAMPLE APPROVAL
Agree what
acceptance will show.
Check shank length and diameter against the clamped-stack requirements.
Verify the specified thread and required full engagement length.
Inspect head and seating geometry and document any agreed installation trial.
